Lara Dewees, a Hernando County social studies teacher, died Sunday following a rodeo accident.
Dewees taught middle and high school students through Hernando County's e-School. She was also a barrel racer. During a Saturday night rodeo in Mississippi, her horse slipped and fell. Dewees was taken to a local hospital for a head injury and broken bones, but died from her injuries.
She was a cancer survivor who had just gotten engaged less than two weeks ago.
She leaves behind an 18-month-old son, Layton.
Friends and raising money for her family.
