PASCO COUNTY, Fla. — An extremely emaciated dog is being treated by a vet right now thanks to some caring neighbors.
Neighbors who live on Richland School Road in Zephyrhills say the dog wandered over to their property from their neighbors after it pulled itself off of its chain.
They took a picture of the skinny dog and sent it to Pasco County Animal Control.
Humane Investigator Lorraine Drake said, "We came out here as soon as possible, made this our very first call of the day."
The dog was hiding on the property so animal control couldn’t get it right away and they had to leave. But after an hour, the dog came out of hiding and walked off the property so the neighbor called animal control again and the officer rushed back.
"The dog was indeed emaciated. It looked like a body scale of one which is pretty low. No muscle mass, no body fat on the dog," Drake said.
Animal control guesses the dog is a pit bull mix around three years old.
"I’ll take it to our staff veterinarian. They’ll assess the dog and do a complete evaluation," Drake said.
At this point its still not clear when or if the dog will be available for adoption
Animal control says pending an investigation the dog’s owner will likely face charges of neglect.
