CITRUS COUNTY, fla — A Citrus County high school student is dead after collapsing during football practice, according to the school district.
The student, identified as 16-year-old Antonio Elijah Hicks, was rushed to the hospital but was pronounced dead on Tuesday, Sept. 28.
"We have been in contact with the student’s family and convey our heartfelt sympathy and support as they deal with this tragic loss," the school district said.
The district's Crisis Team will be at Citrus High School on Wednesday and throughout the rest of the week to provide counseling, assistance and support as needed.

The school district announced on Wednesday that the JV football game against Crystal River for Wednesday night and the Friday night football game against Leesburg have both been canceled.
