SPRING, Texas — A couple was charged after deputies say they left their 11-year-old daughter alone at a home in Texas for a day and a half while they traveled to a concert in Detroit, KTRK reports.

The station says John Michael Guerrero, Jr. and Virginia Yearnd were charged with abandoning a child.

Authorities said the child's great aunt called deputies when she spoke to the girl on the phone and discovered she was home alone.

The parents reportedly left the day before to go see the band Godflesh in Detroit.

KTRK reports that authorities attempted to call the parents for over an hour, but that Guerrero never answered or returned a call.

Court documents showed that Yearnd initially said she was in Louisiana, but then admitted to being in Detroit for the show.

She told deputies her sister was supposed to come check on her daughter, but the 11-year-old didn't know anything about that, or who she should contact if she needed anything.

The girl reportedly said it wasn't the first time she was left alone. She was released into the custody of a neighbor, but the parents have not been arrested yet.
