At a news conference on Wednesday, Officer Kevin Valencia's doctors, the police chief, and his wife spoke to the media about his condition.
Officer Valencia was shot in the head by Gary Lindsey as he was responding to a domestic violence call at the Westbrook Apartment complex near Universal late Sunday. Lindsey then barricaded himself in the apartment with four children. Nearly 21 hours later, police made entry into the apartment to find Lindsey and the four children dead.
Officer Valencia is currently in a coma, in critical condition and he has a "long road ahead for recovery," according to his doctors.
