New steel and aluminum tariffs could affect craft beer in Tampa

At  Big Storm Brewing Company, there's a lot of twists and turns before the beer flows from the assembly line to the glass.

Now there's a new twist facing Tampa Bay's booming brewery business: the steel and aluminum tariffs just imposed by President Trump.

It strikes at the very heart of the beer making process. Virtually everything inside Big Storm's Clearwater Warehouse is made of steel or aluminum.

The tariffs could essentially cap off the craft market in Tampa Bay, making it too expensive for new breweries to even start up.

And LJ Govoni says it will definitely raise beer prices.

"We probably will see somewhere between 30 and 50 cents to the consumer for four packs of beer," he says.

The United Steel Workers Union says the tariffs are "good for working people because they punish the predatory practices of countries that use lax trade rules that hurt American companies."
