An Austrian woman is suing her parents, claiming they’ve been posting embarrassing pictures of her on Facebook since 2009.
According to The Local, the woman’s parents have posted more than 500 photos of her online without her consent and shared them with their 700 Facebook friends — photos that included diaper changes, potty training and nude baby photos.
"They knew no shame and no limit - and didn’t care whether it was a picture of me sitting on the toilet or lying naked in my cot — every stage was photographed and then made public,” the 18-year-old said.
The woman’s father believes he had the right to published the photos because he took them.
According to The Local, the lawsuit will go to court in November and could have big ramifications for Austrian internet users. The case could set important precedents for parents who wish share photos of their child on Facebook.
Internet users in France — which has some of the strictest online privacy laws in the world — can be sentenced $50,000 and up to a year in prison if they publish photos of a another person without their permission.
