Uber announced the launch of a new reporting feature on Wednesday that lets riders report safety issues in real-time.

The On-Trip Reporting feature aims "to encourage people to share feedback when it’s convenient for them," according to Uber.

"Feedback has been a part of the Uber experience since the beginning. However, our research shows that riders may not consistently report experiences that make them feel uncomfortable due in part to being distracted after the trip," a press release said. "When you are meeting friends for dinner, going right into a business meeting or coming home to family, reporting something like harsh braking or inappropriate remarks may not be top of mind."

If you click on the blue shield in your Uber app, which brings you to you Safety Toolkit, you'll find the "report safety incident" option. This allows you to report a non-emergency issue before the trip ends. Uber says its safety team will follow up after the trip.

For emergencies, Uber says riders and drivers should call 911. Click here for more information on the new feature.
