ROCKFORD, Ill. (WFTS) -- An armed robbery suspect is in custody after holding a bank in Illinois hostage for several hours Friday night.
According to the Rockford Police Department, there was an armed robbery at the Heritage Bank in the 5900 block of East State Street around 2:30 p.m..
Police said the armed suspect had barricaded himself inside the bank with "one or more employees or customers." Nearly eight hours after the initial bank robbery call, police were finally able to place the suspect in custody.
ARMED ROBBERY: This afternoon at approximately 2:30 p.m. there was an armed robbery at the Heritage Bank on State and Mulford. The armed suspect has barricaded himself inside with one or more employees or customers.

Officials have not released the bank robbery suspect's identity. Those living near the area is now allowed to drive through the nearby streets and use the bank's ATM.
