A mother in Aurora says one teacher has made a big difference in her son's behavior and inspired him.

Christina Marshall wrote 7NEWS after her son got a thank you card from his teacher at Vassar Elementary School.

"I am proud of you - so proud of you and who you are," the card from teacher Nancy Taphorn said. "The future is bright and I can't wait to see all that you accomplish."

The card was sent to Marshall's 9-year-old son.

Marshall said her son had behavioral problems in third grade and had to transfer schools.

"This teacher showed him how great he was, how smart he is," Marshall said.

Marshall said the teacher gave her son more work and kept him busy and he only got in trouble once during the school year.

She said the card sent to her son during the summer break inspired him.

"At 9 years old, he truly believes that now he's going to have a bright future because his teacher told him so," Marshall said.

After one year with this teacher, Marshall's son has been accepted into the AGATE program -- Aurora Public School's Gifted and Talented Education program.
