TAMPA, Fla. – Incumbent Chad Chronister’s bid to remain Hillsborough County Sheriff continues after he was declared the winner in the GOP Primary Election.
With 390 of 390 precincts reported, Chronister earned 54,111 votes (62 percent) while Boswell had 32,618 votes (38 percent).
Chronister was first named interim sheriff by then-Governor Rick Scott in September 2017 after Sheriff David Gee announced his retirement. Chronister ran for sheriff – and won – in November 2018 to serve the remainder of Gee’s term.
Boswell is a former HCSO detective. He says he was forced to retire after 25 years.
Boswell filed a federal employment discrimination lawsuit in 2018, alleging corruption and that his bosses at HCSO cheated him out of benefits. Boswell told I-Team Investigator Kylie McGivern earlier in the year that voters and deputies in Hillsborough County deserve better.
Chronister will face candidates Gary Pruitt (D) and Ron McMullen (not affiliated with a party) in the November General Election.
