As the national conversation about gender identity gets increasingly intense, one of the nation's largest retailers is taking a stand.
In a statement titled, "Continuing to Stand for Inclusivity," Target makes its position clear:
"In our stores, we demonstrate our commitment to an inclusive experience in many ways. Most relevant for the conversations currently underway, we welcome transgender team members and guests to use the restroom or fitting room facility that corresponds with their gender identity." MORE
As reported by NBC's Today Show, a North Carolina law that prevents transgender people from using bathrooms that align with their gender identity has two billion-dollar companies withdrawing investments. A similar bill failed in the Tennessee legislature on Monday as lawmakers assess the legal challenges in other states where bills have passed.
The Target statement reiterates the company's support of the "federal Equality Act, which provides protections to LGBT individuals, and opposes action that enables discrimination.
"Everyone deserves to feel like they belong. And you’ll always be accepted, respected and welcomed here." Target.com
