If you’re looking for something entertaining for your kids to do after all the Halloween excitement has ended, look no further than Home Depot.

The home improvement retailer is offering a free kids workshop that will teach them how to build a wooden American eagle from 9 a.m.-noon on Nov. 2. Kids will learn to use a hammer, fine sandpaper, wood glue and a Phillips screwdriver.

First they’ll assemble the bird’s basic shape and its wings, then add fun stickers and paint the eagle to bring it to life. They’ll then build the base to help the bird stand tall.

Kids get to keep their craft and receive a free certificate of achievement, a workshop apron and a commemorative pin, while supplies last. Children must be present at the store to participate in the workshop and receive the kit, apron and pin.

The workshop is free, but you must register your child in advance at your local Home Depot. Just head to their website, enter your zip code to find the workshop at the stores near you and register. All attendees must be accompanied by a parent or adult at all times.

If you can’t make it to the Nov. 2 workshop, you might want to check out another of Home Depot’s free craft experiences for kids on Nov. 30 from 9 a.m.-noon. This one will be geared toward the holidays.

Kids will be making their own stocking ornament using the pieces in a kit they’ll receive at the workshop. They’ll learn to nail a frame to the inside of a stocking-shaped ornament. The frame can hold any small photo.

With help from parents and store associates, kids can also paint their creation and add stickers to make it truly unique.

Meanwhile, another big-box retailer has free workshops where kids can make something and take it home, too. Micheals is offering two free crafting events for kids ahead of Halloween. The back-to-back workshops for kids ages 3 and older are on Oct. 26.

These all look like a great way to save money and keep the kiddos occupied doing something productive!
