TAMPA, Fla. — The Florida Aquarium needs your help naming the star of their newest exhibit, Heart of the Sea, a juvenile male loggerhead sea turtle, currently known as #263.

The turtle was unable to return to the wild due to an injury after he was rescued from the frigid waters off the northeast coast of the United States. He's getting settled in at the Florida Aquarium, and now the Aquarium is teaming up with Florida Blue to ask Floridians to help pick his name.

Beginning March 19, 2019, you can head to www.flaquarium.org/choosemyname to check out photos of the sea turtle and vote for the name you think fits him best.

Even better, all of the names were submitted by Hillsborough County Elementary School classes and the Aquarium staff narrowed them down to eight names and the class who suggested the winning name will win a field trip to the Florida Aquarium to meet the loggerhead sea turtle in person.

The names selected for the final public vote are:

  • Kekoa (which means ‘the warrior’ in Hawaiian)
  • Shelldon
  • Suds
  • Leonardo
  • Auggie
  • Lenny
  • Colson
  • Winston

You can vote once a day and as an added bonus, the Aquarium is giving away a family four pack of tickets to a random winner who voted each day. Voting ends on March 31, 2019 and his name will be announced the following week.
