TAMPA, Fla. -- You voted, and the Florida Aquarium listened. The aquarium and Florida Blue asked for the public's opinion in choosing a name of their young loggerhead sea turtle that was unable to head back to the wild because of his injuries.
Elementary school students from Hillsborough County shared their suggestions and Floridians got a chance to choose their favorite.
After thousands of votes were cast, the Florida Aquarium's loggerhead sea turtle will now be called Shelldon. The name was suggested by fifth graders in Michael Schmitt's class at Kimbell Elementary School.

As a reward for helping suggesting the "winning name," the students in Mr. Schmitt's class earned a field trip to the Florida Aquarium to meet Shelldon in person.
Shelldon edged out other name suggestions such as Kekoa, Suds, Leonardo, Auggie, Lenny, Colson and Winston.
