A Pasco program aimed at keeping kids actively reading throughout the summer began Tuesday, July 12. The book bus program complements a similar program that provides students free lunch bus meals.

“It is important for students to continue reading over the summer break to maintain learning gains from the previous school year, so the district will once again load up a colorfully- painted bus with free books to distribute to those students,” said Pasco School District Superintendent Kurt Browning.

The program provides books for children with reading levels spanning from pre-kindergarten all the way up to 12th grade.

School board members, district employees, local elected officials and others will staff the book buses as volunteers, delivering the meals and books to various stops around the district.
