TAMPA, Fla. — Metropolitan Ministries finished up its last day of the Holiday Tent donation drive on Christmas Eve.

In total, the nonprofit helped 23,000 households from all their bay area locations that include Pasco, Pinellas and Hillsborough Counties through the holiday season.

The non-profit missed out on one day of donations after a heavy rain storm shut down their operations one week before Christmas. However, on Christmas Eve, dozens of people came to give last minute donations.

One of the top highlights for volunteers was giving gifts to 100 homeless families with 200 children. The non-profit says employees purchased, wrapped and donated presents to families across Tampa.

On Christmas Day, Metropolitan Ministries will serve hot meals in Hillsborough, Pasco, and Pinellas counties.

They expect to make 1,840 meals throughout their locations.

A community meal will be given to homeless and at-risk people and families on Christmas day at First Presbyterian Church at 412 Zach Street in Tampa.
