TAMPA, Fla. -- It is the time of the year when Metropolitan Ministries hoists its holiday tent in Tampa and opens its holiday center in Pasco County.
This year Metro Ministries is making a request: please donate more hams and canned yams.
It's not an unusual request, Metropolitan Ministries' Justine Burke said.
The non-profit, charity organization welcomes all the canned goods, holiday toys and presents for children, and other nonperishable items you would like to donate. It appears the holiday tent is running low on two popular, highly desirable holiday staples: hams and canned yams.
Other needed items include cereal, rice, beans, potatoes, stuffing and frozen turkeys. The agency especially needs toys for infants and gifts for teenagers. Gift cards from supermarkets, big box stores, online retailers and local movie theaters are highly requested.
Metropolitan Ministries expects to assist 20,000 families in the Tampa Bay area through its holiday tent program this holiday season.
The Metropolitan Ministries Holiday Tent is open at 905 Governor St. in Tampa and the Metropolitan Ministries Pasco Campus Holiday Center at 3214 U.S. 19 N. in Holiday.
