LIST: Where masks are still required in the Tampa Bay area

As more Floridians get their COVID-19 vaccine and restrictions ease in some places, ABC Action News is bringing you the latest on local mask mandates.

All information is current as of Wednesday, May 5.


There are no mask mandates in place in Pasco, Pinellas, Polk, Hernando, Sarasota, Manatee, Highlands, Citrus, Hardee or DeSoto Counties.

  • Pinellas County rescinded its mask mandate on May 4, but private businesses and organizations in Pinellas may still require face coverings.
  • Hillsborough County rescinded its mask mandate on May 5, but private businesses and organizations in Hillsborough may still require face coverings.
  • Pasco County rescinded its mask mandate on April 5, but county leaders still strongly encourage masks.
  • The City of Sarasota removed its mask mandate in February.

Across Florida

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis signed an executive order invalidating local emergency orders and COVID-19 restrictions on Monday, May 3.

Private businesses, of course, can still require masks upon entry and enforce social distancing and other protective measures.

Publix released a statement Tuesday, May 4 saying there will be no changes made to its mask policy.

"Throughout this pandemic, we've implemented many changes in our stores to safeguard the health and well-being of the communities we serve. At this time, no changes are being made to our mask policy."
