TAMPA, Fla. — A Hillsborough County teacher collected more than 60 Easter baskets and delivered them to his students on Thursday.

Brent Walker is a 5th-grade math teacher at Sheehy Elementary in Tampa.

He posted on Facebook saying, "I'm at Wal-Mart grabbing some candy for an egg hunt/math game tomorrow and I ran across these $10 pre-made Easter baskets."

The post explained how he would love to have the baskets on his students' desk. He did not know if all his students would receive any Easter baskets at home.

His Facebook friends responded and they donated more than $1,000.

"It was a very spur of the moment thing. It just kind of happened very quickly," said Brent Walker.

Each student had a basket waiting on their desk on Thursday.

"He put it on Facebook and he has wonderful friends and I think they did a good job. Thank you," said Johnnie Tyson, 5th-grade student.

Aja White heard how Mr. Walker donated to her son's class so she went out and bought 20 baskets for her daughter's daycare.

"It was something that I saw that I could do something good and I could continue the kindness that Mr. Walker was trying to show the kids," said White.

These 5th graders might be learning more than just math problems in class.

"He's a generous teacher. He's kind. He's nice and he expects the best from us," said student Rai 'Seania Simmons.

Walker said do not give him the credit. He says there are teachers across the country teaching more than what is in the lesson plans.

"There are people doing this kind of thing every day in every classroom all over the country. So it's an amazing profession. It's exhausting, but it's worth it," said Walker.

Walker said the leftover money from the basket donations will be used for other classroom activities throughout the year.
