Hillsborough County sheriff's deputies are investigating a report of two men forcing their way into an apartment occupied by five University of South Florida students and taking one of their wallets.

No injuries were reported.

On Thursday, Hillsborough deputies released a report about a home invasion in the 2700 block of Bruce B. Downs Boulevard that occurred in the early morning hours Tuesday, officials said.

About 1:40 a.m. Tuesday two unknown men knocked on the door of an apartment with five people inside. When one of the victims answered the door, the two men carrying handguns forced their way inside.

One of the intruders held the victims at gunpoint in the living room while the second gunman went into a room and removed $300 from a wallet belonging to one of the victims.

The armed men were in the apartment for only about 30 seconds, a Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office release states. They ran to a car driven by a third person, who was waiting in a nearby business parking lot.

Deputies, who responded to the scene, reported smelling a strong odor of marijuana coming from the apartment.

Deputies are asking anyone with information to contact the Hillsborough sheriff's office at (813) 247-8200. Anyone who wants to be eligible for a cash reward is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-873-TIPS (8477) or report information anonymously online at www.crimestoppers
