Cold front brings heavy rainfall, severe weather to Tampa Bay Area

A cold front is making its way across the eastern Gulf of Mexico today with a large area of showers and thunderstorms moving across the Tampa Bay Area. A few storms may be severe with locally heavy rain and damaging wind gusts, according to the National Weather Service. There is a possibility for an isolated tornado as the storms move through the area.

A Flood Watch has been issued for Pasco, Hernando and Citrus Counties until 10 p.m. on Friday. ABC Action News meteorologist Greg Dee says heavy rain may cause localized flooding throughout the day and into the evening.

A high-wind advisory has been issued on the Sunshine Skyway Bridge.

CANCELLATIONS DUE TO WEATHER

  • Pasco County Schools after-school athletic activities canceled
  • Polk County Public Schools after-school activities and after-school child care canceled
  • Manatee County Area Transit's Ted Nowosad Tour of Lights canceled, will take place on Saturday night

In Port Richey, self-service sand and sandbags are available to residents at the Port Richey Police Department.
