TAMPA BAY, Fla- — Officials with The 2021 Krewe of Sant’ Yago Knight Parade say the event has been canceled due to COVID.
The Knight Parade was already postponed this year assuming it would be safe but with the pandemic still in full swing, it's been canceled entirely.
Instead, the Krewe is now focused on the 2022 Knight Parade on Saturday, Feb. 12, 2022.
“We’ve worked closely with the City of Tampa and the parade’s presenting sponsor MOR-TV to assess the potential health risks to the community,” said Ken Willis, Krewe of the Knights of Sant’ Yago member and 2021 parade chairman. “Our Board of Directors has decided it’s best for our community to cancel this year’s parade, and plan to celebrate safely in 2022.”
The 2022 Knight Parade is set for 7 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 12.
The parade will feature illuminated floats and dozens of marching bands, local dignitaries, and thousands of participants as they throw beads.
“While hosting the parade is our most visible role, we’ve continued to support our community through our scholarships and a donation to food assistance efforts during the COVID-19 pandemic,” said Brian Erickson, El Baron XLVII of the Krewe of the Knights of Sant’ Yago. “We plan to continue to lift up our community in 2021.”The Krewe of the Knights of Sant’ Yago Education Foundation awarded scholarships to 74 students at Hillsborough Community College, University of South Florida, and University of Tampa during the 2020-21 school year. The Krewe has committed to providing 74 scholarships in the 2021-22 school year as well.
The parade announcement comes after the announced cancellation of 2021's Gasparilla.
