Hurricane Andrew made landfall in South Florida 24 years ago today.
At the time, it was the most destructive hurricane to hit the United States.
The monster storm came on shore in the area of Homestead, located in Miami-Dade County, as a Category 5 storm -- the most powerful storm there is.
The storm clocked winds of 175 mph.
Andrew destroyed some 63,000 homes and left more than 100,000 others damaged.
During the height of the storm, as many as 1.4 million people lost power.
As Hurricane Andrew's anniversary is marked, the ABC Action Weather team is keeping an eye on two systems in the Atlantic.

The storm has an 80 percent chance for development for the next five days.
Tropical Storm Gaston is also in the Atlantic. It continues to gain strength, but will not be a threat to the United States.
