PASCO COUNTY, Fla. -- A busy and often complained about Pasco County intersection will soon see some short-term fixes ahead of a more comprehensive project.

The Florida Department of Transpiration plans to begin construction in the near future to lengthen the eastbound right and left turn lanes on State Road 54 at US 41.

“It’ll get traffic moving through there hopefully a lot better, but this really is an interim project,” said Kris Carson, FDOT spokesperson.

Pasco County officials say improving traffic flow and congestion at S.R. 54 and US 41 is one of the top priorities for the Metropolitan Planning Organization. The turn lane extension project is the first step toward a comprehensive long-term solution that will involve the state and the community.

FDOT is conducting a feasibility study this month to look at options.

The temporary improvement project should be finished in the summer.
