TECO Streetcar stations reopen after Phase One of track work completed

TAMPA, Fla. — The TECO Line Streetcar is once again serving all stations on weekdays following track work.

The streetcar did not operate between Cadrecha Plaza Station in Ybor City and Cumberland Avenue Station in Channelside Monday through Friday from early November until this week. A shuttle replaced that portion of the route during that time.

The work was for ballast replacement along the streetcar right-of-way. The tiny rocks are used to keep the track in place and help with proper drainage.

Now that the streetcar is operating on the full line, HART is reminding drivers to watch for flashing signs warning drivers that the streetcar is in the area.

ABC Action News recently reported on some new signs that have been added in Ybor City and Channelside.

HART says there have been several accidents involving streetcars this year where the operator was not at fault, including one crash involving a charter bus.

According to HART, there will be a second phase of the work. The timeline of that work is unclear right now.
