MANATEE COUNTY, Fla. — The Florida Department of Transportation is bumping up the schedule for road improvements on State Road 64 in Manatee County.
The state and county will be installing a roundabout at State Road 64 and Greyhawk Blvd/Pope Road. It was originally scheduled for 2023 and is now slated for construction to begin in the spring of 2020.
Two teens died in a crash at this intersection in September of 2018. Troopers say Chase Coyner made a left turn on Pope Road and didn't see a truck traveling in the opposite direction. Coyner and his passenger, Matthew Powers, both died.
