ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — St. Petersburg leaders are moving forward on long-awaited traffic improvements near the Carillon Office Park.

ABC Action News has been reporting on the project since May 2017. The plan will bring changes, such as longer turn lanes and more through lanes, to the intersections of Ulmerton Road and Carillon Parkway, Carillon Parkway and Lake Carillon Drive and Roosevelt Blvd N and Lake Carillon Drive.

“It will work!” said Evan Mory, St. Petersburg Transportation and Parking Management Director. “I think we’re going to have success there. People will find their commute times improved by several minutes.”

The business park, where roughly 20,000 people work, has become notorious for gridlock during the morning and evening commute. The majority of workers come and go around the same time. Mory says he’s heard of it taking some drivers ten minutes to get from the parking lot to the main road. Because of that, the project heavily focuses on the intersection of Carillon Parkway and Lake Carillon Drive.

“Getting in and out can be tough, said Mory. “That’s one of the reasons why it’s a project we’ve been working on for a couple years.”

Drivers could start to see construction in about 90 days. The project is expected to take less than a year to finish.
