SARASOTA, Fla. — Heavily traveled Fruitville Road in Sarasota will not be getting a face-lift anytime soon, after City Commissioners voted down two plans to address safety and congestion concerns.
The plans would have added roundabouts, reduced traffic lanes and doubled the size of sidewalks.

Shelby Isaacson, who owns a downtown business, said something needs to be done with the heavy congestion.
“I do see people come down second street, especially to avoid that Fruitville traffic,” said Isaacson.
She is hoping for a plan sooner than later because Sarasota continues to grow.
"I do think with all of this new development, we do need to be thinking about what we need to do to make this a comfortable place for everyone to live, as well as the seasonal travelers that come down,” said Isaacson.
City engineers plan to go back to the drawing board to come up with another plan for Fruitiville Road.
