TEMPLE TERRACE, Fla. — Temple Terrace Police are now taking a closer look at dangerous drivers near Greco Middle School after several parents brought their concerns to ABC Action News.
The school is located on Gillette Avenue, which is off of Fowler Avenue in Temple Terrace.
Parents like Gina Guillotte told us they are afraid to let their kids walk or bike to school for fear speeding drivers will hit them.
“Drivers need to pay attention and you need to slow down,” Guillotte said. “If that was your child, you’d be fighting the same fight.”
ABC Action News took our speed radar gun out there to see how fast drivers were going through school zones. On a Friday from 8:30 A.M. to 9 A.M., we clocked drivers going 25 to 40 miles per hour through the school zone. The school zone speed limit is 15 miles an hour.
“I think if there were patrols out here, that might help,” Guillotte said.
ABC Action News took these concerns to Temple Terrace Police. They said making sure school zones are safe is a top priority and sent an officer out to monitor the situation the next day.
Temple Terrace Police said they didn’t find the same number of speeding drivers that ABC Action News did. However, police also said that could be because the patrol car was out to slow them down.
