BRANDON, Fla. — Road improvements at a busy South Hillsborough County intersection are now complete, improving safety and traffic flow at Lithia Pinecrest and Lumsden Roads. This directly impacts people who live and work in the Brandon, Fishhawk and Valrico communities.
Before, the road previously lacked adequate turn lanes and signal systems to handle the increased traffic in the fast-growing area, according to county leaders.
Hillsborough County Commissioner Stacy White lives in this area and said these road improvements are long overdue.
“You basically just had basic roads coming together,” White said. “We really didn't have adequate turn lanes to move the traffic.”
In addition to a brand-new traffic signal system, new and extended turning lanes, drainage system upgrades, and concrete traffic separators on Lithia Pinecrest and Lumsden roads, the intersection improvement project also included several pedestrian and bicyclist safety features.
"We've enhanced the intersection here at Lithia Pinecrest,” White said. “We've even created a right-hand turn lane over here onto Durant road which helps people to move onto Durant quickly."
County leaders say the intersection is now safer because it has new high-emphasis crossings, countdown pedestrian crossing signals, reflective pavement markers, retro-reflective thermoplastic lane markings, and retro-reflective signs for enhanced nighttime visibility.
