RUSKIN, Fla. -- Hillsborough County is making it a priority to get crossing guards hired before school starts.
For the past year, we have been showing you kids risking their lives to get to school. Even parents have stepped up acting as crossing guards to try and keep kids safe at busy roads.

After our many stories, county commissioners and the sheriff recently voted to expand their crossing guard program.
Tuesday and Thursday, this week, they’re holding a job hiring fair to hire more crossing guards at the District 5 building at 10128 Windhorst Rd. in Tampa FL from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
"We have a responsibility to keep our children safe whether they’re at school or going to and from our campuses," said Amanda Granit, HCSO spokesperson.
The sheriff's office says they hope to get enough crossing guards hired by the start of the school year.
