TAMPA, Fla. — Florida's Department of Transportation wants your thoughts on adding a lane of traffic to a stretch of Interstate 275 near Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard in Tampa.
The updates would include one additional lane of travel in the existing right of way.
The preferred option would be to add a one 12-foot general purpose lane in each direction on 275 from MLK to south of Bearss Avenue.
FDOT says widening the 7.7 mile stretch of I-275 is critical as it is part of an evacuation route for the Bay area.
The alternative to adding an additional lane would be the No-Build alternative. This means there would be no improvements, but routine maintenance. This would cost nothing, and there would be no disruption to the public.
FDOT points out that choosing this option would mean increased congestion.
