PINELLAS COUNTY, Fla. — Drivers going through the Palm Harbor or Oldsmar area recently may have seen poles popping up. In the ones we saw, they are attached to the crosswalk lights.
We reached out to Pinellas County and the Florida Department of Transportation to figure out what the poles are for.

FDOT tells us the agency is collecting data along Tampa Road, Curlew Road and State Avenue for a signal retiming project.
The cameras will only be up about a week. We are told it safer and saves taxpayers' dollars. Previously, workers would have to sit on a corner counting cars.
The cameras collect video which is processed to develop traffic turning movement counts. That data will be used in the re-timing process.
