HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla. — FDOT tells us the safety improvement project at Big Bend Road and I-75 is moving along.

Construction on this project started in December and was originally estimated to be completed this summer.

FDOT says it looks like construction will now wrap up in April.

The more than $600,000 project will extend the length of the westbound left turn lanes on Big Bend Road onto the I-75 ramps in South Hillsborough County.

Crews are currently widening the turn lane to move forward with the extension.

This project is part of FDOT's efforts to alleviate the bumper to bumper traffic on Big Bend Road.

Other projects along Big Bend Road will fix drainage to reduce flooding and widen portion of the highway from four lanes to six.

FDOT says drivers should expect lane closures near Big Bend Road and I-75 through Friday morning as crews work on widening lanes.
