TAMPA, Fla- — A 71-year-old man was taken into custody after police said he raised a gun at officers Thursday night.

Police said officers responded to a report of shots fired in the 1400 block of W. Waters Ave. They said one business was struck by at least one bullet.

However, no one was injured.

Officers worked on a lead suggesting a man entered a home in the 8400 block of N. Orleans Ave.

Around 7 p.m., officers attempted to make contact with the 71-year-old man. He was later identified as Terry Butts.

Police said Butts raised a gun at officers who immediately took cover.

Negotiations took place with Butts and lasted for almost 90 minutes before he left the house and was taken into custody.

No officers were injured.

Butts was charged with aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer.

Police said it is not clear if Butts fired shots at the business.

This is an ongoing and active investigation.
