TAMPA, Fla. -- While hospitals across the globe are experiencing a shortage of medical supplies because of the coronavirus pandemic, animal shelters are feeling the impact too.

The Humane Society of Tampa Bay is calling to the community for help getting required supplies, specifically Isopropyl Alcohol.

"Help! We are in need of Isopropyl Alcohol, 70% bottles for our shelter animals! This is used for our animals' surgical procedures," the shelter wrote on Facebook. "Big and/or small bottles are greatly appreciated!"

Director of Shelter Operations Danyelle Ho says the shelter started stocking up on essential supplies when the virus reached the U.S.

"We tried to get our stuff as stocked as we could to get what we needed," Ho said. "We did a good job, just as the weeks went by it became increasingly more difficult."

Ho says supplies have run out and store shelves are empty. So they're turning to the community.
