LAKELAND, Fla. -- Publix announced it will give frontline employees special shopping hours.

The grocery store chain will designate Thursday evenings from 8 to 9 p.m. and Friday mornings from 7 to 8 a.m. exclusively for first responders and hospital staff.

These special shopping hours will begin Thursday, April 16 and until further notice, Publix said.

Those who have shopped at Publix over the last few weeks may have noticed some subtle changes with their shopping experience. Many of the Tampa Bay area locations now have Plexiglas installed on the cash registers and implemented one-way shopping aisles as means of encouraging shoppers to practice social distancing.
