TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WFTS) -- Florida has once again shattered its single-day record of new coronavirus cases on Sunday morning. This time, the state reports 15,300 new COVID-19 cases, according to new numbers from the Florida Department of Health (DOH)

Florida's total number of positive coronavirus cases is 269,811 as of Sunday morning, according to DOH. The new numbers broke the previous record, which was 11,393 new cases, set on July 3.

DOH reports 2,101 new cases in Tampa Bay counties, according to Sunday's new numbers.

Out of the state's 142,981 test results, a little more than 11 percent tested positive, according to DOH's new numbers.

The new numbers came hours after Governor Ron DeSantis touted Florida's current testing, saying the state is currently testing one in nine Floridians. He also suggested our upward trend of positivity rates might be flattening, at least for much of the state.

Experts recommend states aim for a positivity rate below 10 percent; numbers we haven’t seen since June 24.

As of Sunday, Florida remains in Phase II of Gov. DeSantis' plan to reopen the state.
