GWYNN OAK, Md. -- A man sustained serious injuries after spraying an aerosol can of deodorant and then lighting a cigarette while inside a vehicle in Gwynn Oak Thursday morning.
Baltimore County Police say the man was sitting inside a company vehicle and even though the windows were open, air blowing in the car pushed the aerosol fumes from the deodorant further into the vehicle.
When the man lit the cigarette, a “sudden, violent, expansion of air” occurred, damaging the car and shaking a building nearby. The incident, which also damaged a vehicle next to it, occurred just before 11:30 a.m.
The man was walking around and talking when police arrived but was taken to Bayview Hospital Burn Unit with serious injuries, according to a fire department spokesperson.
