POLK COUNTY, Fla. — A Polk County woman who said she was forced to eat out of a cooler after the refrigerator in her RV broke turned to Taking Action Reporter Jackie Callaway after calls to the manufacturer went unreturned.

Jeanette Hughes said she decided to downsize to an RV last fall, but the refrigerator inside her home on wheels died – leaving her without one for three months.

“Oh my gosh, it has been horrible,” said Hughes.

According to her warranty, the refrigerator was covered by the manufacturer, Dometic.

But Hughes said Dometic never made good on their original offer to replace the $3,000 unit.

“We weren’t getting any response. This has been going on since the end of November,” said Hughes.

ABC Action News emailed Dometic to ask about the Hughes’ warranty claim.

Hughes said the company called her days later.

The following week Dometic and a team of technicians arrived to install a brand-new unit.

In an email, the company told ABC Action News, “Dometic is very pleased to hear that the situation was rectified to Ms. Hughes satisfaction...”
