Checkers is known for their burgers and new Funnel Cake Fries but something new in their Inverness kitchen a few days ago could make you sick.
On October 25, inspectors demanded the Checkers at 510 West Main Street in Inverness shut down after finding sewage/wastewater backing up through the floor drains by the walk-in cooler and ice machine.
The state also saw employees having to walk through the sewage water to prepare food.
Inspectors discovered hot dogs at 50 degrees Fahrenheit in the cooler, when cold food should be held at 41 degrees Fahrenheit or below.
Other violations documented during their three visits in the last three weeks include no certified food manager on duty, no proof that employees were properly trained with a state training certificate, the soda gun soiled with debris and a toxic spray bottle not labeled.
ABC Action News anchor Wendy Ryan reached out to the Checkers location and spoke to Heather the manager, who said the restaurant was closed because of a plumbing issue and then hung up on her. When Ryan called back, the restaurant did not pick up.
She also called and emailed Checkers corporate office but never heard back.
