Subscription boxes are all the rage, especially the clothing subscriptions. Now, companies are targeting kids and giving them the option to rent and wear clothes.
Children clothing can not only be pricey, but they can grow out of their clothes fast. That’s why subscription services for kids to rent, wear and return clothes are on the rise.
This week, Walmart kicked off their subscription box for kids. They partnered with Kid Box to deliver personalized kids’ fashion through a subscription box. The style box will include four to five items for $48, which Walmart says is 50 percent off the suggested retail price.
Consumer reporter Annie Taylor put the box to the test. She found the same four items in the box on Walmart.com. They totaled to be $58. So, it wasn’t the 50 percent off the suggested retail price. However, there was still a savings of $10.
For unlimited subscribers of Rent the Runway, members can now add kids’ clothes to their current subscription. Members can select from a variety of children clothing. They items can be kept or swapped for another item, as often as desired.
Right now, Rent the Runway only offer girls' sizes 3 years to 10-12 years. An unlimited membership cost $139 a month.
There are other top subscription boxes like Stitch Fix. The company now offers subscription boxes for children. There’s a $20 styling fee per box, but that amount is applied to any items the purchaser wishes to keep.
Kidpik is another subscription box option, but it’s only available for girls. The monthly box costs between $13 to $98, depending on how much you decide to keep.
If subscription services aren't your thing, but you still want to save money on kids’ clothes, a pro-tip is to shop in the month of August. Anticipate your child’s size for the next year and take advantage of the deals on those bigger items.
