CLEARWATER, Fla- — Clearwater is putting out a call for pool lifeguards. You can apply here.
The city says lifeguard fees will be waived if participants can pass pre-requisite requirements which include swimming 300 yards (12 laps) and can retrieve a 10-pound brick from 9 feet of water.
Once hired as a pool lifeguard the city will send the candidate to Water Safety Instruction class for no charge. Lifeguard training classes are offered from January to April and water safety instructor classes are April-May. They are $300 with a recreation card and $330 without a recreation card. The website states potential pool lifeguards will need:
- 16 years of age minimum
- Possession of a valid American Red Cross Lifeguard Training Certification or certification from a nationally recognized aquatic training agency
- Adult/Child/Infant CPR/AED, and First Aid
- American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor Certificate is preferred
- Previous Pool Guard, Swimming Instructor or related work experience preferred
According to the website, lifeguards can make over $13 an hour with the right qualifications.
