ST. PETERSBURG, Fla.—Attention cat lovers: soon you can get your cuddle on and meet some pretty cool cats at Sunshine Kitty Catfe. The 'catfe’ is set to open later this year in the Grand Central District of Downtown St. Pete; it will currently be the only one of its kind in the Tampa Bay area.

As fun as it is to sit at a café and pet cats all day, the purpose of Sunshine Kitty Catfe is to supply a cage-free foster home for cats while they await adoption. The café has partnered with Friends of Strays, a no-kill animal shelter in St. Petersburg, to provide their future guests with the opportunity to give a forever home to a furry friend.

One of the advantages of adopting from a cat café versus a shelter is the level of interaction between the potential pet parents and cats.

“Customers will have the opportunity to spend as much time as they wish with the cats in a relaxing environment where they will be able to see each cat's true personality,” said Amanda Jones, Founder and CE-Meow. “This atmosphere will foster stronger bonds with the cats, leading to more successful adoptions, decreasing adoption returns and re-homing efforts, and further reducing euthanasia rates by allowing the shelter to take in even more homeless and stray cats in our community.”

Sunshine Kitty Catfe is currently focusing on renovating their space. More details will come later this year. Follow SKC on Facebook to stay updated.
