Florida's largest anime convention kicks off July 11

TAMPA, Fla.—Get ready for cosplay, video games, lip sync battles and more at this year’s METROCON. Florida's largest anime convention will run July 11-14 at the Tampa Convention Center.

METROCON is a convention produced for fans, by fans and features exhibitors, celebrity guests and unique and exciting entertainment. Over 10,000 fans are expected to attend.

This year’s theme is Virtue vs Vice, which can be seen through the guests, events and overall vibe of the convention. Guests can take part in costume and dance contests, workshops and live action role play (LARP).

Additional events include:

  • Anime Music Video (AMV) Contest
  • Anime Idol
  • METROcade Video Gaming
  • Tabletop/Card Gaming
  • METRO Fire Show
  • METRO Night Live comedy sketches
  • METROCON Massive—the largest convention rave in the country
  • Kaiju Big Battel (a combination of nostalgia, pop culture and pro-wrestling)

There will also be an Anime Human Chess Match, which METROCON started back in 2004. The event is a combination of Renaissance Faire combat chess and a scripted cosplay involving anime characters from various shows. To get a full list of events during the four-day convention, click here.

Convention Hours:

  • Thursday: 12 p.m. - 2 a.m.
  • Friday: 10 a.m. - 3 a.m.
  • Saturday: 10 a.m. - 3 a.m.
  • Sunday: 10 a.m. - 6 p.m.

Pre-registration has ended but tickets are still available for purchase at the door. Registration begins on Thursday at 12 p.m. for general admission. One-day passes start at $35 for adults and $10 for children 12 and under. Click here to learn more about ticket options.
