ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — The City of St. Petersburg hopes to enhance and expand their paw-print with a new initiative — St. Pete PAWS.

The goal is to make sure St. Petersburg is a place where pets are happy, welcome and healthy. As well as a place that sheds light on the unconditional love animals give, and promote compassion for all our two and four-legged neighbors.

"Last year, we joined the Better Cities for Pets initiative, and I proclaimed St. Petersburg to be a pet-friendly city. This initiative follows up on that promise to do everything from reducing pet homelessness to having more businesses and restaurants welcoming to pets," Mayor Kriseman said. "I hope you will take the time to visit our St. Pete PAWS webpage and review our St. Pete Pet Friendly map. Thank you for helping make the Sunshine City a place where pets are welcome and loved."

The goals for the new initiative are:

  • Enhance and expand St. Petersburg's pawprint with projects and education that promote happy, welcome and healthy pets and pet families in our city's businesses, homes and parks.
  • Build a framework of pet-friendly and pet-centric businesses/organizations creating connections and partnering together to maximize their collective skills and passion to make a positive impact on pets and the community.
  • Shine a light on the pet friendly jewel that St. Pete is and promote the tangible benefits pet friendliness provides to our current residents, newcomers and visitorsboth two and four legged.
