Professional organizer helps you declutter and organize

TAMPA, Fla. — Many people make a vow to get more organized during the new year. But by now, many have fallen off the wagon.

"Organizing tends to be a scary thing," professional organizer Dani Brahm said.

If getting your junk drawer together is your worst nightmare, Brahm says you’re not alone. The solution to that could be somewhere around the house.

"I love using iPhone boxes because they make the perfect compartments for all that stuff," Brahm said. "Compartmentalize everything. If you go to the dollar store, you can buy little trays that will subdivide the drawer into sections and now everything has a home."

Brahm also suggests finding free trays to section off your drawers. She showed us one that came in a stamp set her kids received for the holidays.

Maybe you’ve got bigger fish to fry in the kitchen, like your fridge. Brahm says start by making “zones” for everything.

"I love using these acrylic bins in the fridge because they keep similar items together. You can even use a label in the front," she said.

Or maybe the bathroom makes you cringe every time you walk in trying to find your hairbrush. Brahm suggests putting small things like bobby pins in a bag to keep them all together.

"One of my favorite hacks ever for hair elastics that always get lost at home, use a carabiner clip," she said.

If you're running out of space in your closet, you can fix that with a quick run to the dollar store and hang some of your clothes on shower hooks.

Brahm attached them to a hook that goes over the door.

And if you’re looking for the cheapest solution on the planet, just declutter.

"You don’t really need to buy anything to declutter," Brahm said. "Set a timer for 15 minutes, and really focus on that one area, not the whole room."

Here's some more organizing hacks from Dani Brahm:

  • Adding space to your closet

  • Get out the door quicker with a "launchpad"

  • Adding more storage to your bathroom

  • Organizing your children's books
