As we all know, one of the mega-factors this year is that the states that have Senate elections this year are atypically Republican. Every two years, about one-third of the 100 Senate seats are up for reelection. There are three Senate “classes” and the states in them are essentially random.
In 2014, it’s Class II’s turn. Democratic pollster Harrison Hickman has made two handy charts that illustrate: that the 2014 class is the smallest by population, that they voted more heavily for Romney in 2012 and disapprove of Obama more than the rest of the country.
The first chart shows that Class II went way more heavily for Obama than the other classes – and cast far fewer votes. The second chart shows that how much higher Obama’s disapproval numbers are in the Class II states.
