Laura Harris is an Emmy Award winning journalist who joined the ABC Action News team in July 2012 from the ABC affiliate in Charleston, SC where she was the morning anchor.
Some highlights of Laura’s career at ABC Action News include covering President Obama’s visit to Cuba in 2016 and covering the Tampa Bay Rays while they played the Cuban National Team in Havana. She also covered Pope Francis’ historic visit to Cuba in 2015. On the political side, Laura’s extensively covered both the Republican National Convention from Cleveland, OH as well as the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia in 2016.
She lives by the motto, “If you find something you like to do, you don’t have to work a day in your life.”
She says she truly enjoys telling people’s stories, bringing compelling news to the viewer and doing it all with honesty and integrity.
Before her time in Charleston, Laura worked for WNEG-TV in Athens, GA, CNN Sports in Atlanta, GA as well as TNT Sports in Atlanta.
In her spare time she likes to golf, shop, and go to the beach, but when its football season, she is in front of a TV for college football Saturdays and NFL Sundays!
She is an active member of her sorority, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., a former board member of the Charleston YMCA, Meals on Wheels volunteer, as well as active in her church. During her time in Charleston, Laura was named one of the 2012 “Best and Brightest: Lowcountry’s Finest Young Professionals” with the Cystic Fibrosis Association as well as one of the 2011 Innovators 35 and Under in conjunction with the National Council of Negro Women.
Laura is a graduate of Georgia Southern University, Summa cum Laude and a Division I soccer player for four years.
